Celebs Just Follow Me Around …

Well, I mean … I do migrate from paradise to paradise. Who wouldn’t want to follow me? (tongue firmly in cheek, haters)

bootsyinsidelaFrom the team that brought us LA-area celeb-magnets Hooray Henry’s , SHOREbar, and Bootsy Bellows comes Bootsy Bellows Aspen! So obvious.

Owned by John Terzian, owner & founder of h.wood group, and Bootsy Bellows partner David Arquette, the club will look a lot like the LA one (pictured) with a stage for its signature puppet shows, but have more of a lounge-y and less of a club-y feel. It’ll open at 5pm every day for food (click here for the app menu) and be open ’til 2am.

From the LA Times Article:”It’s a great little downstairs space, so it feels like a speakeasy. The only difference between Aspen and L.A. is that we’re serving food in Aspen,” says h.wood partner John Terzian. “It’s the lounge version of Bootsy’s.”

bootsybellowsaspenBut here’s the kicker: the basement spot they’re occupying? The former Syzygy. That mixed use building houses Ute City restaurant, three affordable housing apartments, and what is possibly the most talked-about penthouse in Aspen—the owners of said penthouse are suing and being sued over a variety of complaints related to building access and neighboring noise. Opening a nightclub in that building is all sorts of ironic.

Walt Harris, owner of the now-shuttered Syzygy and the Ute City restaurant, told the Aspen Daily News that it’s bittersweet to close Syzygy, but it’s “exciting to begin a new chapter.” Indeed it is.

Personally my opinion is clear: don’t build an apartment on Restaurant Row and then get upset when it’s noisy. Presumably you built there because it’s in the heart of town, where you knew there’d be people, music, and noise. One of my closest friends lives in the affordable housing apartments one level closer to the “noise” and I’ve spent many a night there without ever once being woken up. The recycling being collected at 8am—have you ever heard a night’s worth of glass bottles being dumped before?—is another story, but no one is complaining about that.

I digress. Bootsy Bellows Aspen aims to be something between Caribou and Esco, which Aspen sure could use. It opens its doors this Friday, December 20th, with an invite-only party. Look out for their swank NYE bash with David Arquette. I’m super curious to see how Bootsy Aspen does, and I can’t wait to visit, check it out, and then sleep above it peacefully!
