Barefoot

Since it’s summer, I’ve been walking around totally barefoot. No barefoot shoes. Just toes in the grass, on the dirt, whatever. I took an hour walk with the dawg barefoot. 30 minutes at the park. Being totally, completely, 100% barefoot is AWESOME.

Aspen: Golden Leaf Half Marathon

I had full plans to run the Vasque Golden Leaf Half Marathon, named by Trail Runner as one of “America’s 14 most scenic races”, which gains 970 feet in elevation on a narrow, winding singletrack before peaking out at 9,400 feet above sea level … but then I ran the Aspen Valley Half Marathon in…

I’m giving it all up …

No need to CrossFit, run, bike, play soccer … just go hike up a mountain 2,000 feet (reaching almost 12,000) with an overnight camping pack on your back. Because that’s what I did yesterday and it KICKED MY ASS. According to this article, the White River National Forest Aspen Ranger District says the route is…

Yes, you CAN check your assembled bike

Check out this bad boy: I rolled up to the Austin airport with a fully-assembled bike. It’s my mom’s Gary Fisher Nirvana circa at least 7 years ago and while she put up quite the fight saying she MIGHT ride it SOMEDAY, I eventually convinced her to relent with tales of how CONVENIENT it would…

Turkey Creek = Happy Doggie

I love taking Nali to one of the nicest off-leash dog trails around, a quick 2.5-mile trail out at Emma Long Park called Turkey Creek (http://www.austinparks.org/apfweb/park.php?parkId=666). With recent rains, the creek was flowing quickly, the weather was a perfect 65 degrees, and my Vibrams were perfect water-mud-rock combo shoes. Nali, my beloved rescue mutt pup,…

Hope Uncorked at Saks Fifth Avenue

Saks isn’t usually my post-work happy hour spot, but tonight they’re hosting a winetasting called Hope Uncorked to benefit Fertile Hope of Austin. The benefit is from 5-8pm, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting Fertile Hope of Austin. The Executive Director of Fertile Hope in NYC, Lindsay Nohr Beck, will be there too. The event…

Thirsty Thursdays – Runs, Events, & More

As the first Thursday of the month often goes, this one is jam-packed with things to do. Behold: The Moonlight Margarita Run has only been around 4 years and has already turned into one of Austin’s most infamous running events. The Town Lake Trail Foundation hosts the 5K, with an 8pm start time, as a…

Cheap/Free No Eating/Drinking Activities

These are some tough criteria! But I’ve been pondering this for awhile, ever since I trekked to SIX lounge for a cute guy I met who bartends there. “Going out” is easy. Everyone does it. So you can conceivably arrange to meet organically, with minimal effort, while you’re out. Or at a restaurant. It’s low-commitment,…
