When the baby is screaming crying, I hug her and kiss her face and ask her “what do you need?” I hold her closer, knowing innately that this isn’t about me, it’s about her. She can’t even tell me what she needs, and I give her this grace … or maybe because she can’t tell me, I have to.
So why, when my loving husband is frustrated or short with me, can I not hug him, kiss his face, and ask him “what do you need?”
Imma try.
