Group Motivation: Me in the Gym

Today’s .com workout:

Most of the comments went something like this: “wow that’s gonna suck”

I, on the other hand, was excited. I love the olympic lifts and I need to work on rowing–a perfect combo of loves and not. I did decide before the workout even began that I’d scale to 3 Rounds. Breathing is hard enough here, and I don’t need to frustrate myself further by doing a ridiculously long workout. Some of the times in the comments were OVER 40 MINUTES. Not what I need on my second day at almost 8,000 feet.

For my scaling, however, I decided to go up to almost the men’s weight on the cleans. This was partially because the yellow bumpers at 15K were really convenient, but also because a 95# clean is fairly easy for me. I also bumped the thruster weight up to 72 pounds, also out of convenient bumper plate placement.

So, 3 Rounds:
500 M row
127# power clean, 12 reps
72# thruster, 15 reps

25:46

Another time I’m not proud of, but another thing I’ve done. The cleans were HARD. That is HEAVY. But I knew I could do them, and knocked them out in sets of 4. The Thrusters weren’t too heavy, but I wasn’t squatting enough under the bar, so I ended up pressing out the finish on the first half of the reps, before That Ripped Guy of Mine(TM)* walked by and figured out what the hell was going on with me and my funny bent arms.

I was also just having a hard time BREATHING. Thanks, altitude.

I really miss training with a group, and my time shows it. You definitely take less rest with all those eyes watching and bodies working around you. I’m gonna have to really work on the self motivation.

But That Ripped Guy of Mine(TM)* also pointed out that maybe I shouldn’t be worrying about my times matching everyone else’s for now, and be looking for in another week or two at the altitude. And then the upside … that I’ll be in tip-top shape for Sectionals back in Texas!

*I asked my lovely, very fit, non-CrossFitting boyfriend what he’d like to be called on my CrossFit blog, and he suggested That Ripped Guy of Mine(TM). I added the TradeMark. So there you go, That Ripped Guy of Mine(TM).
