Starlite, Star Bright …

Mmmm, Starlite. A dear friend and I dined at the venerable 4th & Colorado spot, a place I’d been wanting to try since a coworker in the industry (yep, I was a bartender at one time) said it was one of his favorite places to eat–when he was in the mood to spend lots of money. They’ve now divided up the place into a downstairs bistro and upstairs finer dining locale. Though we sat downstairs in the eclectic dining room, we sampled their “fine dining” fare and found it to be quite fine indeed.

I started with some stellar gnocchi–it was somehow fluffy, which is hard to do with potatoes and unheard of with gnocchi. The pesto sauce on it was delish as well. As the appetizer, it set the bar pretty high for the rest of the meal: I’d definitely say it was my fave dish of the night.

For dinner I ordered the NY Strip steak, which is FREE RANGE!!!, and it was a nice, delicious steak. Didn’t knock my socks off, but then, it was a perfect medium and well-seasoned, so what more do you really ask for in a hunk of meat? My friend, however, decided to be adventurous and try the duck–mainly because he thought the sweet potatoes accompanying it sounded good–and he was greatly rewarded for his spirit. The flavors in the duck and sweet potato married together perfectly! I was impressed.

In all, we had a great meal at Starlite. It was tasty, the service was excellent, and I was so glad to finally try it. Now I don’t have to try it during Restaurant Week! Plus it was the perfect starting point for an evening–a short jaunt over to my new go-to hangout, Lanai! 🙂
