you are my celebrity

SicFit!!

I am proud to say that

a) I did not die in my first CrossFit workout back in the Texas heat in the middle of the day in an un-air-conditioned garage. 101 degrees, “feels like 106,” says weather.com.

b) our “dynamic warmup” was laying down the horse mats that become the gym floor. This is remarkably taxing on the finger grip strength, as each mat weight about 40 pounds, is 4′ x 6′, and has the texture of sandpaper mixed with hot tar. But I pulled ’em off the truck and laid ’em down like anyone else (and have scratches on my legs to show for it).

Then, we got to do the very first workout ever on the mats at SicFit Austin. It was a scorcher: 9 rounds, a shuttle run to start each round, 10 pushups each round, and 2-4-6-8-10-8-6-4-2 squat cleans at 95#. I haven’t worked out with a heavy bar in long enough that my thumb ripped in that little groove where the bar goes (yeah, yeah, use the hook grip and you wouldn’t have that problem) 🙁 But I finished in 15:24, which wasn’t bad compared to everyone else (ok, I finished 2nd… I’m nothing if not competitive).

I DO miss the gym sometimes …
