Exploring Art From Prison

If I imagine the peace and solace I’ve found in art during the pandemic, I can only imagine how impactful art can be for incarcerated populations—people who aren’t always taught to and given the room to express themselves. Imagine if prison reform not only included professional/job skills training but also personal growth education too…

“For inmates, who describe never having received positive reinforcement, their decision to make art constitutes a radical act of self-belief.”

From this great article.

I love that there are groups out there trying to help support art education and creation in prisons, and marketing that art. Imagine being able to create some of the things they do with such limited supplies: the creativity for canvas and craft is absolutely impressive as well. It’s also incredibly sad: those supplies are cheap and easy to provide.
