I think I’m very far enough removed from this interview to safely publish this doozy: a very senior SVP at a very publicly traded company interviewed me for a very cool job, and we really hit it off (professionally). My interview with his boss went well. Then the company was radio silent. I dutifully followed up until finally, one day a few weeks later, the SVP calls me himself to say:
“You were a very close second. We’ve hired someone else.”
IS THIS A COMPLIMENT?!*
I AM INSULTED.
I very much do not like being second.
*yes this is obviously a compliment, I get it.
**everything works out in the end blah blah I’m really excited for my new job that isn’t this one!
