The story: Last year, I was contracted by a marketing firm to report on marketing going on at SXSW at all the free, unofficial parties. Which means they were more or less paying me to party. And I did. With a fearless partner in crime, we tackled 65 1/2 hours of partying in one week. Check out last year’s report.
This year, I’m taking it easy. But for you, dear readers, I am compiling a spreadsheet. It’s the real way to navigate SXSW–it’s not just about bands, it’s about the swag, the free food, and how good the drinks are. So while I list a couple of links below that are good for the badgeholders and people with wristbands–this spreadsheet is for the real good stuff.
SPREADSHEET: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=p2_e5Pa9NwdSkKQEQs3v1MA
Will be constantly updated. Best parties are highlighted in green. For GO.
Other good sources (some have better/different formats … the spreadsheet is the easiest for me to understand)
Official SXSW Schedule – Super awesome calendar format is great for badgeholders/wristbanders, but takes too much work to dig up what is free or needs RSVP to–use my spreadsheet instead, free-seekers!
Do512 – with tabs for Interactive, Film, Music, and Bands!
Austinist – Gallery of flyers + List of RSVPs = Excellent Resource
New Music Tipsheet Day Party List – Thorough, but not as easy to navigate
austin360 – All day & night parties
Showlist Austin – Broken down by day, easy list of bands.
Yelp Deals – even a partier has gotta eat–and cheap!
Guide to Not Drinking Too Much During SXSW – This is more important than you think…
