Travel Fitness Solution: EMG Live Fitness

On my recent travels, Cait made me go on a 4-mile run and a 6.7-mile run. This, for a girl (me) who hasn’t run longer than sprints since she ran a half marathon from Aspen to Basalt in Summer 2010. Erm, without training. To be clear, I love running in new places and seeing new sights, but said half marathon ruined my knee (possibly ITBS which sounds a little too close to IBS for me) and I literally haven’t run since.

The third day, I refused to run, so Cait and I hunkered down in her dad’s study (the window-washers on the next building over thoroughly enjoyed the view) for a little online fitness via emglivefitness.com. Piloxing? Count us in!

The class was GOOD. The cool thing about EMG is that they stream real life classes, so the instructor is actually instructing other people (who you can sometimes see in the mirrors), which gives you much more of a sense of that community working out than typical workout vids. You also get to try all the latest classes even if you live in a remote place where the trendy spin-yoga-heptathlon-rhythmic-dancing-one-hour-class is not currently available.

We both woke up the next morning pleasantly sore. For a busy traveler, being able to log in to work out in the comfort of a hotel room is pretty awesome. You can literally do a live online class or stream an on-demand one that was once literally live! Try it on your next trip—even try a class you’ve never heard of! Balogadio* anyone?

*I don’t think that exists. Yet.
