you are my celebrity

“We have to take a selfie!” | Feel Good Friday 071417

… says Mama last night, at a Paso Robles wine tasting she managed to find and fly in for—which was, of course, fabulous. Great venue, really, really good wines, lots of fun with the mama.

The selfie was silly (thanks for the free sunnies!) but it encapsulates something I am so grateful for: curiosity. My parents both are curious. They are constantly learning, growing, seeking. They do it in very different ways, but not only did they encourage curiosity in my brother and me growing up, but they embody it to this day.

My dad improbably opened a martial arts studio after getting two very high level black belts and creating two of his own systems, while working on writing a series of books, and continuing his lifelong psychotherapy practice—which is an embodiment of curiosity in and of itself. My mom not only selfies at wine tastings where she’s learning more about wine, but she facebooks at traffic lights, follows at least 4 people on instagram, and is literally constantly emailing me articles about women in tech, women in business, new tech (the eff is a bitcoin?!)—not to mention she jumped into launching a startup website with me 4 years ago.

A curious family is truly a gift.

Other things specifically this week I’m grateful for: beach day, volleyball, courage, my coworkers across the wall, Shannon back at yoga, bromance, crashing a company party, my red dress, football, living by the beach, and—oddly enough—my hair. My hair is at a length where I don’t have to do anything to it and it looks good, which is making me really, really happy because I’m very, very lazy about my looks.

Fave wine from the Paso Robles wine tasting? An absolutely fabulous $90 Cabernet called The Cardinal from The Farm Winery, which unfortunately does not do tours or sell at retail (?!). Our other favorite, possibly due to the inebriated, hilarious owner/wine pourer, was a $118 Hammersky Cab called Straight de Barrel. Some day I will be less of a faux celebrity and I will be able to buy this wine!
