GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up

As if October wasn’t full enough of reasons to eat out–it’s Texas wine month, features two $35 Restaurant Weeks–the Texas Department of Agriculture is sponsoring a Go Texan Restaurant Round-Up tomorrow (Wednesday) to raise awareness of Texas foods while also donating proceeds to food banks across the state.

Participating restaurants are offering Texas food and wine pairings to encourage a sampling of statewide offerings.

While the state-wide initiative is good, a friend of mine pointed this out: “What I think is somewhat notable: If you look at the participating restaurants in Austin, not all of them are actually donating proceeds to food banks. And only one (Trio) is donating all proceeds.”

Which isn’t to say that the other restaurants aren’t doing a good thing by having special Texas dishes or food or pairings, but it does make me feel less excited about Austin’s giving that only one restaurant will donate all its proceeds. And we know how I love the popovers at Trio
