Celeb Brows Know Hows

My new boss loves good eyebrows. Like LOVES them. It’s made me more self-conscious about my eyebrows than I ever thought possible. So you can imagine how thrilled I was to get the inside scoop from Billion Dollar Brows, a Beverly Hills brand and salon dedicated to brows. And celebs. Because, Beverly Hills. How to get celeb brows.

Anyway, they broke down five types of brows, with pics and how-tos. Natalie Plain, founder of Billion Dollar Brows, says “The right eyebrow shape can be extraordinary in a fierce, feminine way — empowering, so right for right now.” So, get to it:

The Super-Groomed Brow: Look à la Audrey Hepburn

super groomed brows

Actress Natalie Portman and Rooney Mara are donning this modern take on Audrey Hepburn’s striking brows. “This strong, graphic brow has less of an arch and no stray hairs, narrowing into a sharp point at the outer edge,” says Natalie. “You need a strong sense of fashion and confidence to carry this off.”

Get the Look: The Super-Groomed Brow best suits brunettes with strong features and a naturally horizontal eyebrow shape. This isn’t going to work if your eyebrows have a naturally high arch. Use a tool to outline and tweezers to shape.

The Girl Next Door

Not too thin. Not too thick. The Girl Next Door brow is ideal for women with an effortless style who are going for a natural arch without obvious shaping. “Brush your eyebrows downwards, trimming the hairs that fall below the brow, then brush them back up, trimming any that go beyond the top of the brow,” says Natalie.

Get the Look: Great on medium brown to light blonde hair colors, the Girl Next Door Brow needs no more than light landscaping. Brushing your brows in place will give them a natural, effortless look.

The Red Carpet Ready Arch

Hollywood’s glamouroti are showing off this ultra-groomed arch because they make everyone look instantly polished. The medium thickness and sculpted look opens up eyes and lifts the face; ideal for any red carpet moment.

Get the Look: It’s great for any face shape and age. If you’re all about low-maintenance, this may not be right for you. A brow pencil can provide a burst of color and highlight your brows for that red carpet ready look.

The 3D Brow (aka the Scouse Brow)

Taking inspiration from Madonna in her pre-Blonde Ambition days, these eyebrows are designed to make a statement without overpowering your overall appearance. Think: thick, bold and dramatic. “This ‘bold brow’ look is a new beauty phenomenon right now,” says Natalie. “It’s even royal-worthy.”

Get the Look: Fantastic for those who want to embrace their strong facial features and cause whiplash when they walk in a room. Use BDB Taupe Brow Powder and Brow Brush to fill in your brows with brow gel to hold the arch.

 The Sans Eyebrow

thin brow

Overplucking is still considered a major beauty faux pas, but now there’s a new skinny style that’s more Bridget Bardot than Pamela Anderson. “Don’t go too thin, especially if you’ve got high arches,” says Natalie.

Get the Look: This is a look that should only be attempted by those with naturally thin brows. If your brows are naturally thick, we implore you, please, do not try this at home! Having received thousands of e-mails over the years from customers who have over-tweezed their brows, we know this for certain: getting too ambitious with the tweezers will only result in heartache and pain. Use BDB Brow Boost to condition and restore thin eyebrows and a pencil to fill in sparse, patchy brows, giving them a full, natural look.
